EN 284 - LGBTQ Literature(3/3) Prerequisites: EN 100 / EN 101 or its equivalent with a C- or better, or they may be admitted via the professor’s permission – EN 284 is an introduction to literature by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer-identified (LGBTQ) authors, and authors who present LGBTQ characters and themes in their work. The course explores the varieties of writing expression LGBTQ people have employed to think about issues including the search for identity, power and societal roles, the exploration of relationships and conflict, family and marriage, sexuality, marginalization and treatment as other, responses to homophobia in its variety of oppressive manifestations, achievement and daily life. Students will read and discuss the texts to consider the impact of sexuality and gender on literature and experience.
