BI 127 - Microbiology(4/7) Prerequisites: C- or better in high school biology, BI 101 , or BI 117 – This introductory course in microbiology will prepare students with the necessary background and experience to enter medically-related fields such as nursing, dental hygiene, dental assisting, physician’s assistant, pharmacy, or physical therapy. Those pursuing a degree in Biology and those desiring a basic knowledge of microbiology may also find the course of interest. Major topics of study include the structure and biology of a variety of microbial pathogens; techniques for culturing, identifying, and controlling pathogenic microorganisms; host-parasite relationships of infectious disease; and host defense mechanisms, including the immune system. The course consists of three hours of lecture and four hours of lab per week during a regular semester.
