Surgical Technology, A.A.A.S

The Surgical Technology Program is an Associate Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The curriculum includes selected science courses, which provide the basis for in-depth consideration of both theory and clinical application of principles utilized in Surgical Technology. Basic courses in the theoretical aspects of Surgical Technology encompass lecture, clinical, and online instruction. 

Throughout the program, students are provided with hands-on experience in cooperation with various hospitals under the direction of the Program Director (Academic Team Leader), program faculty, teaching clinician and clinical preceptors. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the National Board Certification Examination administered by Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) and endorsed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); the examination fee has been incorporated into the cost of the program.  

NOTE:

  • This associates is designed as an Apprenticeship program with hospital-based clinical education delivered in partnership with a participating health care employer.   
  • Candidates for this program must interview with a participating health care employer and be hired as an apprentice to be able to participate in this program.  
  • Contact GRCC’s Allied Health Department for a list of participating employers and start dates for the next cohort.
