Automotive Technology Certificate


Academic Program Code:  921

This program prepares students to work on today’s high-tech vehicles.  Instruction includes component identification, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of six of the major automotive systems, including brake, suspension and steering, electrical and electronics, engine repair, heating and air conditioning, and engine performance.

In addition to aligning with the content of Michigan Mechanic Certification tests, this program meets ASE Education Foundation standards for instruction in the following specialty areas:

  • Engine Repair (A1)
  • Suspension and Steering (A4)
  • Brakes (A5)
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6)
  • Heating and Air Conditioning (A7)
  • Engine Performance (A8)

In What Order Should I Take Classes?


Please select courses from the Priority I list.  Select courses based on the number of credits you are taking in the semester, for example, if you are a part time student you do not have to take all of the courses listed.  If you are unable to schedule Priority I courses, move to and select from the list of Priority II, Priority III, and Priority IV courses.
