GVSU-GRCC Sports Management Articulation Agreement

The Pre-Sport Management program is designed to prepare students to complete an Associate of Arts Degree at GRCC and transfer to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport Management at Grand Valley State University. This program prepares students to pursue leadership/administrative roles in public, non-profit, commercial, and recreational sport organizations or for roles in sport organizations on the interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional, and recreational levels.

The coursework needed to complete this program is listed below.  The courses transfer and satisfy requirements at Grand Valley State University. 

Students should contact Grand Valley State Univeristy to obtain additional detailed information about transfer requirements. Grand Valley State University ultimately makes the decisions about how each course will be used to meet the bachelor’s degree requirements. Students should also review the specific admission requirements for Grand Valley State University and the Sport Management program.

GRCC advisors and faculty are available to help students navigate transfer resources and create an individualized transfer plan, including selection of elective courses, which meets all GRCC and Grand Valley State University requirements.

Graduates of this program will earn an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and may be eligible to earn the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) credential.

 

Program Notes


Admission to Grand Valley State University requires a 2.50 cumulative transfer grade point average.

EN 102 – English Composition II – must be graded at a “C” or above to receive specific WRT 150 credit in transfer.

Students should consider adding an optional minor, such as Business or Hospitality and Tourism Management, depending on academic and career goals.

All Issues courses must be taken at GVSU.

Additional advising notes provided on the full curriculum guide for the Sport Management major.

It is recommended that students meet with an advisor to review the degree, course schedule, and have any questions answered prior to completing the GRCC/GVSU articulated program.

It is the responsibility of the students to confirm transferability of courses with the receiving institution.

Bachelor’s Degree Requirements at GVSU

The following requirements apply to all undergraduate degree-seeking students:

1. A minimum of 120 semester hours.

2. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 GPA.

3. Graduation major GPA of at least 2.00.

4. General education requirements.

5. Capstone course is SPM 495.

6. The last 30 semester hours toward a baccalaureate degree must be earned in Grand Valley courses.

7. A minimum of 58 semester hours must be earned at a senior (4 yr) institution.

8. A minimum of 12 Grand Valley earned semester hours must be included in the major. 

It is recommended that students meet with an advisor to review the requirements, and advising notes for this articulated program and have any questions about transfer answered prior to completing this degree program at GRCC.

Select a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework from the General Education course list. Select coursework as directed below.  Use transfer resources available and advising to select coursework based on Grand Valley State University requirements.

Humanities


Select two (2) Humanities General Education Electives from two (2) different subject areas. Only one (1) Foreign Language course can be used for the Humanities requirement.

Social Sciences


Select two (2) of the following courses. Social Sciences General Education Electives must be selected from two (2) different subject areas. EC 252  and PY 201   are recommended for Grand Valley State University’s program.

In addition to BI 117 , select one (1) Nat Sci Lab/Non Lab General Education Elective from a discipline other than BI.

Please select courses from the Priority I list.  Select courses based on the number of credits you are taking in the semester, for example, if you are a part time student you do not have to take all of the courses listed.  If you are unable to schedule Priority I courses, move to and select from the list of Priority II, Priority III, and Priority IV courses.
