Academic Program Code: 164
This program qualifies students for a US Department of Labor registered apprenticeship. Students desiring to complete an apprenticeship program will need to successfully complete a minimum of 16 credit hours in CIS (Computer Information Systems) or a related area. Students successfully completing the employer established work requirements and the GRCC coursework are eligible to receive an apprenticeship certificate from Grand Rapids Community College. Contact the IT Apprenticeship Coordinator in the GRCC CIS office for more information.
Note: U.S. Department of Labor Office Apprenticeships require a student to have standards for on-the-job training in addition to the education to be eligible to receive their DOL Registered Apprentice certificate.
Program Admissions Requirements
Employers select employees for apprenticeship.
Students must be high school graduates or have passed the high school equivalency GED (General Educational Development) Test or be in an approved Pre-apprentice program.
Students must successfully complete all Academic Foundational courses. This applies to students whose GPA and ACT or Accuplacer scores place them into Academic Foundational courses. Students with 12 or more college credits are still required to take Accuplacer Math, unless they have previously completed MA 098 or a higher level math course (or its equivalent) with a grade of “C” or Higher.
