Continuing Education / Workforce Training

Grand Rapids Community College Workforce Training is preparing your workforce.

Our mission is to produce work ready students with the skills to meet the needs of local employers. We are the preferred talent provider for West Michigan.
Our success is due to the active partnerships we have cultivated and work with in our community. Businesses, community and government organizations, and educational collaborators help us meet your employee needs.
Our role

GRCC’s Workforce Training is a collection of services focused on improving the quality of your labor pool.  Each year, GRCC’s Workforce Training touches the lives of nearly 17,000 individuals through these five areas.

Assessment

Workforce Training is your partner in Assessment. We offer ACT WorkKeys as well as WorkKeys Talent and WorkKeys Fit assessments for individuals. These assessments help individuals make training and career choices.

Our customized training staff can help companies with employee needs assessments, quality systems, lean implementation and up-skilling plans to help continue to evolve your workforce.

Continuing Education & Professional Development

Through our Continuing Education & Professional Development area, GRCC offer short workshops and classes in a variety of topics that range from personal finance to technical skill building. Many of the offerings focus on quality methods, incorporate national certifications, and offer active learning environments.

GRCC offers many online educational opportunities through a partnership with Ed2Go. While GRCC is accredited by the North Central Accreditation Association, courses offered and/or certifications in partnership with Cengage Learning are not authorized by GRCC to receive credit or financial aid.

If time is the issue or the classroom offerings do not fit your schedule, consider an online class with Ed2Go. Topics range from Anatomy to Web Design and include health care, personal interest, and business administration. These courses are affordable, convenient, fun, fast and highly interactive, and geared just for you.

Customized Corporate Training

GRCC has a long history of working with area employers.  We focus on custom training specifically designed to improve your workforce, your processes, and your business.

In addition to designing curriculum that achieves measurable outcomes, we deliver training in a way that fits your schedule to meet the demands of your workforce, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Whether you are looking for one specific training topic, or your business needs a comprehensive training program, let our experts get to work for you!

Through consultation, and assessment, Workforce Training will tailor a program to meet your training needs. You will determine which learning approach is appropriate and convenient. Our services do not end when we identify the problem. We work with you to design and implement the right solutions that will have the greatest impact on your business. Options include credit and non-credit formats.

Job Training

GRCC’s Job Training programs provide a quality learning experience for students pursuing job skills for employment, using year-round instruction with multiple starting dates and hands-on curriculum.  These programs prepare an individual for a job immediately upon completion, with learning over 18 weeks for 34 hours a week.  When an individual is ready to continue their educational pathway, these programs are designed to articulate into GRCC’s associate degree programs.  All Job Training programs include national certifications and offer opportunities for students to earn multiple credentials demanded by local employers.

Non-Credit English as a Second Language

GRCC offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for students whose native language is not English. Each class is four academic credits, and students may take up to three ESL classes at a time. These classes help advanced/beginning through advanced level students improve their English so that they will be more successful in college, at work, and in the community.

Classes are offered at four levels. Students are required to take a placement test (LOEP) before registration so that they may be placed into the correct level. The test includes listening and speaking, writing and grammar, and reading and vocabulary.
