- IRW 98 or above (C or above) OR
- SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 400 and above OR
- ACT English and Reading combined score 26 and above (valid February 2018 forward) OR
- Accuplacer Writing of 4 and NextGen Reading of 249 and above (valid October 2018 forward) OR
- Accuplacer Writing of 5 above (valid October 2018 forward)

Corequisites: None Description: This course explores the style, elements, forms, and themes contained in fiction, poetry, and drama. Critical approaches of deep reading and academic analysis provide students with a strong foundation in distinguishing genre forms, evaluating writing styles, and internalizing themes. Students learn approaches to discuss and write about literature through a study of literature in the three main genres by a variety of authors who write in distinctive styles across many time periods.
