MUS 183 - Introduction To Music Education

Prerequisites/Other Requirements: MUS 113  (C or Higher) and MUS 115  (C or Higher) and MUS 121  (C or Higher)

English Prerequisites:
  • IRW 98  or above (C or above) OR
  • SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 400 and above OR
  • ACT English and Reading combined score 26 and above (valid February 2018 forward) OR
  • Accuplacer Writing of 4 and NextGen Reading of 249 and above (valid October 2018 forward) OR
  • Accuplacer Writing of 5 above (valid October 2018 forward)

Description: Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of music education. They learn about music education philosophy, advocacy, and history. Students are introduced to best teaching practices through classroom observations, and imitate these practices through hands-on teaching experiences. The course is designed to assist the students’ decisions to enter the field of music education.
