College Level Prerequisites: GRCC College Level Writing (English ACT 18 or higher OR successful completion of EN 097 or higher OR English (Write Placer Plus) 5 or higher) Description: This course examines the structure, functions, and issues of state and local government with an emphasis on the State of Michigan. It covers the separation of powers and overlapping jurisdictions of states, counties, townships, cities, villages, and school districts. The issues of sovereignty, crime, education, economic development, and government finances will also be discussed. A student will need to be able to do college level writing, as well as use critical thinking skills.
