    Description: This course is designed for students enrolled in the HVAC/R program. Students participate in a paid or unpaid work experience involving an area employer to practice job skills and increase employability. They will work a minimum of 15 hours per week under supervision at an approved place of employment. The instructor will monitor the student’s overall performance. There is a mandatory orientation meeting at the beginning of the semester. Students are responsible for identifying their own internship site. A list of potential internship sites will be made available by the department. Recommended Skills: Completion of the HVAC/R Certificate & Effective Writing and Communication Skills

    Description: This course covers topics in European History from its foundations in ancient Mesopotamia through 1500 CE. The course is designed to examine the origins, development, and influence of (and influences on) Western Civilization from its foundations in ancient Greece and Rome through circa 1500 CE. This was an exciting period of European history; we explore the first empires, the emergence of world religions, the foundations of the class systems, the “invention” of the state, the commercial revolution, the destruction wrought by the Black Death and the “discovery” of the New World, as well as the influences of these contexts and shifts on politics, culture and society. In this course, students are the historian; you investigate primary sources, historical context and theories in order to better understand the events and transformations that occurred during these formative years of European history.

    Description: The course on Latin American history will cover the period from roughly 1300 to the present, leading students to understand the complex historical systems and events that have driven the past, produced the present, and guide the future of Latin America. This survey course will impart an understanding of Latin American political, economic, diplomatic, social, and cultural history. Students will study cultures different from their own and learn to appreciate the validity of diverse cultural traditions. Rather than focus on independent histories of dozens of nations, this class will examine broad themes that have shaped the historical experience of all Latin America: conquest, imperialism, liberalism, neocolonialism, nationalism, revolution, and neoliberalism.

    Description: This is an interdisciplinary course that examines a given topic or problem from a variety of perspectives through a collaborative environment.  This course challenges students to work in an assigned team to apply knowledge and research skills acquired in their previous coursework and honors program experiences. Students interact with campus/community members and/or creative artists, acquire research and study skills applicable to their future endeavors, and reflect upon what it means to be a full member of a greater community of learning.  The course culminates in a team presentation and Q & A before a meeting of Honors Program students, staff, and faculty at the end of each semester.  Students must be enrolled in the GRCC Honors program and have completed at least 9 credit hours of Honors coursework prior to enrolling in this course.

Recommended Skills: Math proficiency of MA 095 or Higher, and a basic understanding of blueprint reading/interpretation prior to enrolling in this course.

    MN 119A (Introductory Machine Operations Module A) – An introduction to the manufacturing environment.  Special emphasis is placed on general safety procedures and recognition of hazardous materials.  Proper use of hand tools, measuring tools, and layout tools is emphasized. 

    MN 119B (Introductory Machine Operations Module B) – Students study and apply the fundamentals of metal cutting with the proper application of cutting tools.  Specific training in the proper use of power saws, drill presses, and vertical mills is addressed.

    MN 119C (Introductory Machine Operations Module C) – Students study and apply the fundamentals of metal cutting with the proper application of cutting tools.  Specific training in the proper use of an engine lathe with traditional and special tooling, setups, and fixturing methods are introduced.  The importance of tighter tolerances and better surface finishes is also stressed.

    MN 119D (Introductory Machine Operations Module D) – Students will study basic surface grinding and CNC operations.  Students will use a Haas CNC mill in both manual and G-code modes to introduce the basic concepts of CNC setup and operation.

    Description: This course covers the fundamentals of moving fluids and pneumatic power. Students review design requirements of pneumatic compressors, circuits and robotic applications, and gain an understanding of the laws which apply to gases independent of heat, pressure and volume. Additionally, operating pneumatic valves and selecting proper pneumatic cylinders and motors, as well as pneumatic air preparation and distribution within normal operation of industrial applications is taught.

    The course is offered in both a lecture / lab format as well as a 3 module format.
