MN 232 - Technical Pipe Welding


Description
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with the fundamentals of pipe welding in different positions, including 1G, 2G, 5G, and 6G positions using a combination of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1.  The student will demonstrate the ability to weld butt joints in the 5G and 6G positions on pipe and bend coupons from these specimens to meet AWS, API, or ASME specifications. 

2.  The student will demonstrate knowledge of safe welding practices as it applies to welding and shop work, including but not limited to: shop clean up, working with others, and proper equipment use.

3. The student will be compliant using the following welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.

4. The student will demonstrate proper pipe welding and pipe preperation techniques.
Course Outline:
This course is a very fluid lab that will have students in different stages of curriculum during the semester.  Below is the outline of base skills and techniques that will be taught.
