MN 231 - Welding Fabrication, Design, and Testing


Description
This course is a study of the elements of metal fabrication and the methods for destructive and nondestructive testing. The procedures for shop fabrication, welder qualification testing, and practical hands on lab work are part of the course work. All prerequisite courses must be completed to successfully navigate this course.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate knowlege of the American Welding Society AWS Testing procedures.
  2. Demonstrate proper use of a welding procedure for weld testing.
  3. Complete groove test welds according to AWS codes using the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) procedures.
  4. Examine welds for weld defects.
  5. Identify the best solution to a problem or issue. 
  6. Complete work accurately, with attention to detail. 

Course Outline:
I. Students will demonstrate personal and equipment safety considerations that are necessary for welding and testing equipment.

II. Students will demonstrate how to apply welding codes to solve problems.

III. Students will demonstrate proper techniques for destructive and non destructive testing of weldments.

IV. Students will demonstrate proper welding techniques in accordance with American Welding Society Standards.

V. Students will demonstrate design and cost analysis of weldments.
