Description: Microeconomics is the study of how individuals, firms, and governments make choices and how these choices interact. The course begins by introducing the assumptions and core principles of economics. This will prepare students to build basic models of individual and firm behavior. We will analyze behavior in perfect competitive markets as well as imperfectly competitive market structures such as monopolies and oligopolies. We will also use economic models to study market failures caused by externalities and public goods. Students will use the skills learned to analyze a variety of current social issues from an economic perspective.
