ANE 262 - Anesthesia Technology Clinical III Description This course is the third and final externship experience, focusing on integrating theory, simulation, and practical skills acquired from previous didactic coursework to be applied in the clinical and patient care setting. The student will progressively function as a member of the Anesthesia Care Team and interact professionally with vendors and other departments. Students must maintain a weekly case log of all procedures and detailed case reports of processes involving direct patient care. 1. Demonstrate daily interaction as a productive member of the surgical team.
2. Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed in the OR based on procedural and patient needs.
3. Demonstrate competency in opening and preparing the supplies and instruments necessary for the procedure while maintaining an aseptic technique.
4. Perform the daily activities of the anesthesia technologist under the direct supervision of a mentoring staff member.
5. Exhibit punctuality, consistency, and dedication.
6. Recognize the ACLS algorithm and the medications associated with resuscitation.
7. Illustrate competence in utilizing the vast multitude of anesthesia adjunct equipment.
8. Explain the advanced principles associated with safe patient practice under anesthesia.
9. Describe the airway equipment available for specific and necessary surgical procedures.
10. Recognize the differences throughout the anesthesia delivery systems.
11. Identify the basic necessities and principles associated with safe patient care.
12. Describe the differences between disinfection, clean, aseptic, and sterile processes.
13. Identify and define the differences between each central venous catheter (cordis) kit.
14. Explain the importance of adequately assisting the anesthesia care team with local anesthetic approaches.
15. Describe the patient monitoring equipment (invasive and non-invasive) that is available for patient care and safety.
16. Identification of the proper patient position required for specific surgical interventions.
17. Define the regulatory agencies (JC, AABB, etc.). Approved for Online Delivery?: No Course Outline:
- Students will demonstrate mastery and proficiency of objectives including, but not limited to:
- performing set up for all cases
- troubleshooting issues with equipment
- demonstrate knowledge of equipment
- assist with patient care within the scope of practice of an Anesthesia Technologist.
- Students will focus on tasks such as:
- adjunct equipment
- ACLS procedures, airway equipment
- cleaning/disinfecting
- anesthesia delivery systems
- CVC kits, monitoring the patient
- patient positioning
- regulatory agencies
