Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the major themes and issues in African-American History from pre-contact through the modern era. Special attention will be paid to the centrality of the African-American experience in American history. Students will engage in robust study of both cultural and historical evidence to demonstrate the agency of the common man and woman. Special attention will be paid to issues such as slavery, the creation of modern racism, civil rights, and segregation.
