College Level Prerequisites: None Description: This is an integrated study of classical transmission genetics and molecular genetics which emphasizes the human organism and draws attention to the evolutionary relatedness of all organisms. Major topics include Mendelian principles, the chromosomal basis of inheritance, the structure and function of DNA, the tools of biotechnology and genomic analysis, the regulation of gene expression, and genetic analysis of populations. Three hours of lecture. Recommended Skills: Mastery of basic algebra skills. College level reading and writing skills. Ability to utilize a library and on line search engines to locate information.
