The EPiC Consortium Surgical Technology Program hosted by Muskegon Community College on behalf of the partner colleges, is an Associate Degree in Applied Science program and has applied for new program initial accreditation. This program includes courses that lead to a Sterile Processing Certificate. The curriculum includes science courses selected to provide a basis for the clinical and theory application of principles used in Surgical Technology. Basic courses in the theoretical aspects of Surgical Technology include lecture, clinical, and on-line instruction. All Surgical Technology courses must be passed with a minimum grade of C (75%). The goal of the program is to prepare entry-level surgical technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Throughout the program, students are provided with hands-on experience in cooperation with various hospitals under the direction of the Program Director/Instructor. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the National Board Certification Examination administered by Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) and endorsed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); the examination fee has been incorporated into the cost of the program.  

NOTE:

• This associates is designed as an Apprenticeship program with hospital-based clinical education delivered in partnership with a participating health care employer.   
• Candidates for this program must interview with a participating health care employer and be hired as an apprentice to be able to participate in this program.
