Pre-Early Childhood Education, A.A. (3 + 1, Ferris State University)

This program is designed to offer a clear pathway for students wanting to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in Early Childhood Education at Ferris State University. Among the jobs that a bachelor’s degree recipient in this field may consider are positions in Head Start programs, Great Start Readiness Programs, day care centers, family day care homes, elementary schools, hospitals, recreation centers or other child related business.  By declaring this Articulated Pre-Major, students are on track to graduate from GRCC and transfer to Ferris State University to major in Early Childhood Education.

Program Admissions Requirements:

In order to be eligible for admission into the Pre-Early Childhood Education program, students must have completed the Child Development, Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences degree. Contact the GRCC Education Department for additional information regarding admission to this program.

Graduates of this program will earn an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and may be eligible to earn the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) credential.

English Composition and Communications


Humanities


Select two (2) Humanities General Education Electives from two (2) different subject areas. Only one (1) Foreign Language course can be used for the Humanities requirement. You should select courses in alignment with Ferris State University “Culture” General Education courses.

Social Sciences


Select two (2) Social Sciences General Education Electives from two (2) different subject areas. You should select courses in alignment with Ferris State University “Self and Society” General Education courses. If you are pursuing the “Child Life Specialist Track,” select either PY 201 or SO 251.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics


Natural Sciences


Select two (2) Natural Sciences General Education courses from two (2) different subject areas; one (1) must be lab. You should select courses in alignment with Ferris “Natural Sciences” General Education courses.

Mathematics


Select one (1) Mathematics General Education Elective.

Students enrolled in Child Development Lab classes (CD 118 , CD 209 , CD 210 , CD 229 , and CD 230 ) as well as CD 260  (required tutoring) must undergo a Criminal Background Check and a Department of Human Services Central Registry Check. Being convicted of ANY FELONY, any of the listed offenses as defined by MCL 28.722 (Sex Offenders Registration Act; Act 295 of 1994), or being listed on the Michigan Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry will result in refusal of lab placement and removal from the course.
