Pre-Elementary Education, A.A. (Western Michigan University)

Academic Program Code: 636

This academic program lays the foundation to transfer to Western Michigan University to obtain an Elementary Education degree at Western Michigan University. The Elementary Education Curriculum is designed to prepare students to assume teaching responsibilities in self-contained classrooms in grades K-5 all subjects, 6-8 in content area majors or minors. This is accomplished by completing the Pre-Elementary Education, A.A. at GRCC in the first two years and transferring seamlessly to Western to complete the final two years of the program. By declaring this articulated program, students are on track to graduate with both an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University.

Important Program Note:

This GRCC Academic Program and the Articulation Agreement are currently under review.
Due to changes in Michigan teacher certification grade bands, the Michigan Department of Education is currently reviewing all elementary teacher education programs in the state. WMU will continue to offer at least three options that lead to teacher certification at the elementary level:  Elementary Education (Kindergarten to sixth grade), Early Childhood Elementary Education (birth to Kindergarten), and Special Education (students with learning disabilities in grades K-12), and may also have a fourth option for those interested in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Students can contact the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) Advising Office at WMU for updates at coe-advising@wmich.edu.
