Corequisites: None Description: This is the second course in a two-course sequence for pre-service elementary teachers (PK–Grade 8). Students engage in in-depth explorations of rational number concepts, including fractions, decimals, and integers, as well as proportional reasoning, with an emphasis on representations, models, and operations. Pedagogy focuses on the development of students’ mathematical thinking, communication, and reasoning, as well as evaluation of student understanding. Clinical experience includes a required Service Learning component involving planning, implementing, and reflecting on standards-aligned mathematics instruction with elementary students.
