Corequisites: None Description: This is the first course in a two-course sequence for pre-service elementary teachers (Birth–Grade 6). Students engage in in-depth explorations of whole number concepts including counting, place value, and operations, with attention to multiple representations, algorithms, and reasoning in base-ten and other bases. Pedagogy focuses on the development of children’s understanding, thinking processes, strategies, and problem solving. Clinical experience includes observing and analyzing student work and classroom interactions, developing activities to enhance student understanding, facilitating mathematical discussions, and reflecting on instructional practice.
