Description
This course covers the principles of stage directing, such as play selection, research and analysis, conceptualization, staging, and actor coaching. Students completing this course are eligible to apply to direct a one-act play for GRCC Players.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyze the relative importance of plot, characters, and theme in a preselected play script and research the special topics relevant to it.
  2. Conceptualize a play in a way that inspires and directs creativity of other artists.
  3. Describe characters based on sociological, psychological, and physiological qualities and note their transformation throughout the script.
  4. Transfer knowledge of characters to actors through the blocking phase of the directing process.
  5. Develop a director’s prompt book.
