THE 132 - Jazz I


Description
This course offers a first semester of Jazz to those students who have had no Jazz training or have received less than 2 years of Jazz Dance or Hip-Hop. Using music of today, this class involves muscle toning, stretching, and rhythm exercises. Students learn various forms of movement and the wide terminology utilized in this form of dance.

2. Demonstrate entry level Jazz body positions and execute basic Jazz walks, runs, and jumps.

A. Body Positioning

1. Introduction to Flat Back 

2. Introduction to Contraction

3. Relationship of arms, head, and shoulders while dancing

B. Introduction to Horton, East and West coast Techniques (continuing regularly throughout semester)

C. Moving across the floor

IV. Dancing with Music and rhythm
