EL 276 - Automation Integration


Description
This course prepares students for connecting equipment such as PLCs, Robots, and conveyor systems to work together as they would in industry, using all of the latest technology and networking capabilities to manage I/O and operations. The course also incorporates all of the latest safety components to support the safe operation of industry equipment.

  1. Safety
    1. Define safety equipment
    2. Develop an understanding of how to implement safety devices
    3. Learn how to implement safety equipment in multiple station applications
  2. Networking
    1. Define a network
    2. Develop an understanding of how to implement a network and how to add devices to this network
    3. Learn troubleshooting of a network
  3. Integration
    1. Define the necessary signals to share with equipment
    2.  Learn the necessity of mechanical and electrical interlocks
    3. Understand the need for messages and alarms when integrating equipment
  4. Evaluation
    1. Define throughput and efficiency
    2. Learn how to produce useful machine data
    3. Connect system to a database to share machine data

Instructional Strategies:
This class is going to be configured such that the Lecture will support the lab. We will meet for lecture for 2 hours then move into the lab for 2 hours to implement what was discussed in lecture.
