CVT 230 - Clinical Practicum II


Description
This course provides clinical experience in procedures performed in the invasive cardiovascular laboratory. This includes the use and operation of equipment and devices, performing tests, documenting, circulating, patient care as it relates to procedures being performed. Emphasis will be placed on cardiac catheterization in interventional procedures and introduction to peripheral vascular procedures.

  1. Apply principles of total quality management.

  5. Apply skills in history taking, patient assessment, sterile technique, and equipment handling.
  6. Apply skills in contrast administration, patient monitoring, and entering information into the health record.
  7. Assess cardiovascular interventional diagnostic results and the treatments deployed.
  8. Demonstrate post procedure skills for cardiovascular interventional patients.
  9. Demonstrates time management.

Course Outline:
 

Wk 1-3: Scrubbing diagnostic and interventional procedures, intro
to peripheral procedures
Continuation of documenting procedures
Wk 4-6: Alternate scrubbing, monitoring, and documenting roles.
Include patient preprocedure and postprocedure protocols
Wk 7-11: Scrubbing high risk interventional procedures
Scrubbing peripheralvascular procedures
Wk 12-14: Observing and scrubbing EP procedures
Wk 15: Scrubbing vascular procedures and coronary procedures
 
***Students may gain experience in the registered cardiovascular invasive
specialist roles in an asynchronous manner due to the variability of schedules
in each hospital ‘s invasive cardiovascular laboratory.
