AUT 155 - Automotive Detailing and Reconditioning


Description
Students in this course learn how to assess vehicle condition and develop a plan for cleaning, reconditioning, and detailing interiors, exteriors, and painted surfaces.  Repair of windshield and headlamp surfaces are also covered. 

The course content emphasizes selection and application of proper automotive cleaners and chemicals, along with the use of related tools and equipment.  Students will examine automotive detailing industry trends, define customer service goals, and explore business opportunities.

  1. Understand and demonstrate the proper use of automotive detailing and reconditioning equipment, including buffers, polishers, and extractors.
  2. Determine which automotive detailing chemicals are appropriate for a variety of conditions in automotive interiors and exteriors
  3. Demonstrate preparation and application of paint sealants 
  4. Demonstrate glass repair and reconditioning equipment used for windshields and headlamps
  5. Define automotive detailing business standards for daily operations and customer service  

 
Course Outline:
I. Detailing and Reconditioning Automotive Exteriors and Interiors

I.A. Instruction on all aspects of wash preperation of interior, exterior, and engine bay

I.B. Detailing chemicals and their proper use

I.C. Hands-on practice using professional equipment, such as polishers, hot water extractors, windshield repair kits 

II. Windshield repair and headlight restoration

III. Industry trends, customer service, business structure, credentials, EPA regulations
