BA 144 - Applied Excel in Business


Description
This course focuses on the tools used to make data-driven decisions in business.  Using the current version of Microsoft Excel, students solve business problems by creating and modifying spreadsheets.  The course introduces students to spreadsheets and progresses to advanced spreadsheet features such as financial modeling, reporting and data validation.

  1. Enter text, number, date, and time data to create efficient, effective worksheets.
  2. Effectively communicate information using functions and worksheet formatting.
  3. Create formulas and functions to perform calculations, analyze data, solve problems, and help in making wise business decisions.
  4. Create a variety of detailed charts appropriate to the data that will visually represent and analyze the data.
  5. Use logical and retrieval functions to analyze data in support of decision making.
  6. Use tables, database functions, PivotTables, and PivotCharts to quickly summarize and analyze large amounts of data.
  7. Use multiple worksheets, workbooks, and templates to create an Excel application.
  8. Perform formula auditing, use data validation, create macros, and explore worksheet and workbook protection to refine an Excel application.
  9. Understand the benefits of analyzing data sets and demonstrate techniques to import, organize, and clean data sets from a variety of sources.
  10. Utilize various forecasting and optimization tools, such as data tables, Scenario Manager, and Solver to support decision making.
  11. Utilize VBA to create custom functions.
  12. Create and/or organize data and information into meaningful patterns in order to interpret and draw inferences from it. (CT3)
