DHY 131 - Introduction to Dental Hygiene Patient Care and Management


Description
The dental hygiene process of care provides the foundation for comprehensive dental hygiene treatment. In this course, students learn how to implement the process of care components that include review of patient assessment data, develop a dental hygiene diagnosis and create a dental hygiene care (treatment) plan. As part of the care plan process, students learn how to complete caries risk and periodontal risk assessments.

  1. Identify and write dental hygiene diagnostic statements based on assessment findings. 
  2. Identify and define key terms and concepts related to planning dental hygiene patient care. 
  3. Identify and describe assessment findings and individual patient factors including caries and periodontal risk assessments which could influence planning dental hygiene care. 
  4. Differentiate between and synthesize the steps in the Dental Hygiene Process of Care. 
  5. Identify and prepare components of a dental hygiene care plan. 
  6. Identify patient assessment and management techniques for children and adolescent patients. 
  7. Develop a plan to implement a solution to a problem or issue. 
  8. Translate or explain what written information means and/or how it can be used.

Faculty Credential Requirement Details:
Masters degree in Education or a related credential is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of related work experience (4,000 hours) is required to satisfy Perkin’s Vocational Act requirements. Additionally, the Instructor must possess a RDA/CDA, or RDH License or DDS/DMD License in Michigan. Documented expertise in the area of teaching responsibility and the area of content delivery method are required.
