Description
This course is a broad survey of materials and finishes utilized in interior design projects.  Students plan and design using appropriate materials and resources.  Emphasis is placed on codes and their effect on design solutions.

  1. Solve interior design problems with creativity and sensitivity.
  2. Demonstrate basic understanding of the functional qualities of interior materials.
  3. Demonstrate basic understanding of estimation of materials for budget assessment.
  4. Demonstrate basic understanding of codes and standard testing procedures for interior materials.
  5. Demonstrate how to specify furniture fabric and equipment for interiors.
  6. Develop solutions to aesthetic and design problems through understanding of basic design principles and color theory.
  7. Objectively critique verbally and in writing one’s own artwork as well as the work of others.
  8. Participate effectively in classroom critiques and discussions.
  9. Develop and demonstrate self-discipline to manage work load through the coordination of various steps of the design process and be able to move back and forth between designs in various stages of completion.
  10. Cultivate and demonstrate an appreciation for aesthetics and diversity.
  11. Develop and demonstrate an attitude of curiosity and habits of inquiry that foster life-long learning.
  12. Use creativity and alternative thinking to brainstorm new ideas and possible solutions to problems or issues. 
  13. Complete work accurately, with attention to detail.
