HVA 276 - Advanced Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating


Description
This course covers information that pertains to commercial HVAC equipment. Topics discussed include understanding equipment performance, psychometrics, advanced troubleshooting, gas direct fired equipment, chiller and cooling tower operation, and alternative energy sources including geothermal heat pump operation.

  1. Analyze the seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and coefficient of performance (COP) as they relate to heating and air conditioning equipment.
  2. Analyze the function of the economizer cycle on packaged heating and air conditioning equipment.
  3. Perform troubleshooting techniques and calculate proper outdoor air, return air and mixed air conditions on commercial HVAC equipment.
  4. Analyze the function and control of gas direct-fired heating equipment and commercial chillers and cooling towers.
  5. Identify boiler components and perform start-up and check out of steam and hot water boilers for proper operation.
  6. Compare and contrast the function and application for alternative energy sources including solar, wind, and geothermal energy, including their components and procedures.
  7. Clearly and completely state and describe a problem/issue. (CT1)
  8. Use well-designed search strategies to gather data and information. (CT10)
