HVA 136 - Air Conditioning Theory Description Students learn the theory of air conditioning for split systems, packaged systems and heat pump systems. System installation, startup, controls, maintenance, troubleshooting, and standard repair procedures are emphasized. Psychometric analysis of system operation and building controls is also studied. Safety procedures are discussed and applied as they relate to this trade. - Use proper terminology to describe and perform start-up for a basic AC system and the refrigeration cycle.
- Perform leak test, evacuate and recharge an AC system; Recover refrigerant from an AC system as needed.
- Determine proper system requirements of superheat and sub cooling on an operating system.
- Determine normal system operating pressures as well as air flow requirements and comfort conditions for AC system operation.
- Replace and/or adjust compressor, blower motor, pulleys, etc. in an AC system and verify correct operation.
