Description
This course is a continuation of Applied Principles of Dental Assisting I. Students receive assignments to general and/or specialty dental offices for continued practice in chair side assisting skills.

1. Students will complete required hours of chairside dental assisting skills in an assigned dental office. (CODA Standards 2-22, 2-23, 2-24 and 2-25)

2. Students will demonstrate professional behavior at all times in assigned dental practice. (CODA Standard 2-29).

3. Students will be able to identify and assess problems to determine solutions for situations encountered during their externship experiences. (CODA Standard 2-27)

4. Students will be able to communicate effectively within a dental practice. (CODA Standard 2-20)

 
Course Outline:
1. Students will contact their assigned office(s) for their externship experiences. Students will professionally attend offices keeping a log of work hours. Students will keep a daily journal of dental experiences.

Faculty Credential Requirement Details:
Master’s degree in Education or a related credential is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of related work experience (4,000 hours) is required to satisfy Perkin’s Vocational Act requirements. Additionally, the Instructor must possess a RDA/CDA or DDS/DMD License in Michigan. Documented expertise in the area of teaching responsibility and the area of content delivery method are required.
