CJ 287 - Juvenile Services Internship/Capstone


Description
The Juvenile Services internship is primarily considered a capstone course. The course provides a structured and extended off-campus experience in a supervised setting for Juvenile Services Majors. Students work within a variety of professional settings that are related to their major and future career interests. Students are responsible for identifying their own internship site. A list of potential internship sites may be available through the Criminal Justice department and GRCC Employment Services. The internship may be paid or unpaid. Students are required to spend a minimum of 90 clock hours at their internship site.

4. Manage groups of juveniles in an juvenile service setting.

5. Communicate with parents/legal guardians of juveniles regarding progress in the program/agency/facility.

6. Communicate and work with other staff members in a juvenile service setting.

7. Plan and implement programs, curriculum, and or activities appropriate for the juvenile service setting.

8. Complete and submit Portfolio.

9.  Articulate the importance of and how to find opportunities to volunteer/serve in the community. 

10. Work well in teams and with others. 
Course Outline:
I. Attend Orientation Meeting via in person or email with Internship Coordinator.

II. Obtain and submit all preliminary written materials required i.e., Emergency Contact Form, Site Agreement Form, Waiver of Liability Form, Application, Placement Research Essays, Student Contract, and Resume/Cover letter(s).

III. Confirm/obtain site placement

IV. Submit timely status reports (Time log sheets, Journal Assignments and Agency Report).

V. Obtain Agency Evaluation of Student Work performance.

VI. Prepare and submit Final Portfolio
