ARA 101 - Introductory Arabic I
Description
Introductory Arabic is a beginning-level course in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). MSA is the language used throughout the Arab world: the Middle East. Although dialects in each region differ, MSA unites all Arabs and allows them to communicate with each other. This course offers instruction and practice in the four language skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking and introduces the pronunciation, vocabulary and basic grammar of MSA Arabic. Two dialects are taught alongside MSA, in cultural contexts, using realia, video, and readings.

8. Identify the subject and the predicate in an Arabic verb-less sentence.
9. Identify the subject prefixes of present-tense verbs in Arabic.
10. Identify the possessive suffixes of nouns and definite and indefinite nouns in Arabic.
11. Say the numbers up to ten in Arabic and read and write the Persian numerals.
12. Identify which countries throughout the world have large Arabic-speaking populations and describe cultural differences that exist between the people of Arabic-speaking countries and Americans. (GELO 4)
13. Listen and comprehend specific vocabulary, questions, and sentences in MSA and certain dialects. (GELO 2)
14. Understand the role of context, audience, and purpose when developing a communication.
15. Work well in teams and with others.
