SW 216 - Social Work Interviewing and Assessment Credit Hours: 3 Contact Hours: 3 Prerequisites/Other Requirements: SW 150 (C or Higher)
English Prerequisites:
- IRW 98 or above (C or above) OR
- SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 400 and above OR
- ACT English and Reading combined score 26 and above (valid February 2018 forward) OR
- Accuplacer Writing of 4 and NextGen Reading of 249 and above (valid October 2018 forward) OR
- Accuplacer Writing of 5 above (valid October 2018 forward)

Corequisites: None Description: This class provides an introduction to types, purposes and stages of interviewing. Students are introduced to basic empathy training. Skill development for observation, listening, non-verbal communication, rapport-building, information giving and information gathering are fundamental components of the class. Students are introduced to beginning assessment, monitoring and working with culturally diverse, oppressed, or psychologically maladaptive clients.
