CJ 140 - Juvenile Delinquency


Description
This course examines the nature, extent, and causes of juvenile delinquency in American society. Special emphasis is given to adolescent development and the role and impact of the family, community, school, peer groups, social class, and other cultural and social environments impacting the juvenile. Criminological theories are addressed along with current treatment protocols regarding juvenile offenders. The future of delinquency prevention and control is examined.

2. Identify, assess, and explain adolescent development as it relates to juvenile delinquency.

3. Compare and contrast Delinquency Theories from the context of Choice, Biological, Psychological, Sociological, Developmental, and Gender perspectives.

4. Develop a case scenario that reflects the impacts of family, school, peers, mental and medical health and substance use on juveniles, including treatment recommendations for the juvenile.

5. Examine future trends of addressing juvenile delinquency and treatment recommendations.

6. Clearly and completely state and describe a problem/issue.

7. Identify ethical dilemmas associated with environmental, social or cultural issues.
