Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA)


The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) is designed to facilitate the transfer of general education requirements from community colleges to four year colleges and universities within Michigan.

Students can view a list of participating institutions or learn more about the MTA by going online at www.grcc.edu/MTA

The MTA requirements  should fulfill all or the majority of the student’s lower level general education requirements dependent on the requirements of their major.

To fulfill the MTA, students must complete a total of 30 credits in English Composition, Humanities, Social Science, and Natural Science & Mathematics from the approved list below. Students must receive a grade of C in each course in order to be awarded the MTA.

Select two (2) Humanities courses from two (2) different disciplines (subjects) from the list below.

Foreign Language


Only one (1) Foreign Language course may be used as a Humanities General Education Elective.

For students who are in the 2016-2017 catalog year and after, a History course can now meet either a Humanities or Social Sciences requirement.  Please note each History course can only count as either a Humanities or Social Science, not both.

Select two (2) Social Sciences General Education Electives from two (2) different subject areas.
