Machine Tool Certificate

The Machine Tool Certificate program is designed to offer students a time effective pathway for acquiring the basic skills necessary to procure entry-level employment in the machine tool trades.

Students enrolled in this program learn both the soft skills and technical skills needed to be considered a viable candidate for early employment and/or apprenticeship opportunities. Soft skills include teamwork, problem solving, quality principles, and communication skills. Technical skills include manual machine tool operations, blueprint reading, mathematical operations, metrology, and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) operations and programming.

Enrollment may be part-time or full-time, days or nights. The following courses may be taken in any order and at any time they are available as long as prerequisites have been met; however, students are recommended to confer with a faculty advisor when necessary. Students wishing to complete the Machine Tool Certificate program are required to complete the following course requirements.

Furthermore, these courses are directly applicable to the completion of the Tooling and Manufacturing Technology Certificate program (Academic Program Code: 920) and/or the Tooling and Manufacturing Technology A.A.A.S. degree (Academic Program Code: 908) if students wish to pursue further educational credentials.

Financial Aid

This program is eligible for Federal Financial Aid effective November 2018.

Essential Abilities and Technical Standards

Physical requirements most often associated with this type of training and/or related employment include:

Ability to safely lift 20 lbs.
Ability to work with arms in extended position.
Ability to kneel, crouch, and stand on a concrete surface for extended periods.
Ability to sit, walk, stand, climb/balance, rotation of head/neck, flexion (head bent down, head bent back), twisting at the waist, handling/grasping, and fine finger manipulation.
Ability to work in a noisy environment with an elevated level of debris.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum vision of 20/200 correctable to 20/20.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, 20 feet or more, the ability to bring objects into sharp focus, judge distance and space relationships, and identify and/or distinguish colors.
- Adequate vision to read printed materials, blue prints, and computer screens.
Adequate hearing/speech strategies to effectively communicate in person.
