This academic program lays the foundation to transfer to Western Michigan University to obtain an Elementary Education degree at Western Michigan University. The Elementary Education Curriculum is designed to prepare students to assume teaching responsibilities in self-contained classrooms in grades K-5 all subjects, 6-8 in content area majors or minors. This is accomplished by completing the Pre-Elementary Education, A.A. at GRCC in the first two years and transferring seamlessly to Western to complete the final two years of the program. By declaring this articulated program, students are on track to graduate with both an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC and a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University.

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 must be attained for advancement from the Pre-Education curriculum to the Elementary Education professional curriculum at WMU.
Students are strongly encouraged to take and pass all 3 subtests of the MTTC #96: Professional Readiness Exam (PRE) prior to transferring to WMU. It is recommended that students send their ACT/SAT scores to WMU for evaluation to determine if they are eligible for an exemption for 1 or all of the subtests due to their score. Transfer Notes
It is recommended that students meet with an advisor to review the requirements for this articulated program and have any questions about transfer answered prior to completing this degree program at GRCC. Western Michigan University will accept courses taken at GRCC as outlined in the program agreement. A minimum grade of 2.5 (C+) is required for CD 118 and WE 157. For students majoring, or minoring in Mathematics, a minimum grade of 3.0 (B) is required in MA 210. |
