This course explores specific narrative film genres, such as the western, the war film, the gangster film, film noir, the detective film, comedy, horror, melodrama, science fiction, and the musical. While keeping in mind the history, basic tenants, and socio-historical dimensions pertaining to different genres, students will critique films according to style and aesthetics.
