CO 246 - Web Server Admin and Security

This course prepares students to establish and manage a web server. Issues such as server hardware, middleware, and enterprise applications will be discussed. Using Apache HTTP Server software students will learn how to compile from source code using Knoppix Linux/UNIX. Students will learn how to configure and maintain the web server. Also the control of web resources through Virtual Hosts and Proxies will be covered. Students learn how to identify security risks, how to configure servers to avoid unwanted access, where to find and how to read system log files. Students also configure the server to allow and disallow various types of access, including password protecting directories. Recommended: It is recommended, but not required, that students take CO 132   , CO 142 ,  CO 232   or before taking this course.
