QSC 255 - Metrology Description This course introduces students to the practical application of quality science using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) in a modern manufacturing environment. Students will learn how dimensional measurement supports quality assurance, process control, and continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing operations. Emphasis is placed on hands-on operation of a CMM to inspect parts, interpret measurement data, and make data-driven quality decisions. - Students will be able to explain foundational concepts of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including the purpose and advantages over traditional tolerancing methods.
- Students will be able to create and interpret base alignments in Calypso to establish accurate part coordinate systems for measurement.
- Students will be able to explain the purpose and functionality of stylus system simulation in Calypso, including its role in validating measurement strategies prior to execution.
- Students will be able to explain the fundamentals of curve measurement in Calypso, including the purpose and applications of curve features in dimensional inspection.
