NDT 120 - EEG Pre-Clinical Preparation Description This course prepares the EEG student for safe participation in clinical education within the neurodiagnostic department. Students will explore and discuss the importance of patient safety, patient assessment, and equipment placement. Students will practice and master various procedures in a scheduled laboratory setting as well as complete online assignments. Course Outline: I. Lab 1
A. Objectives
1. Read over “Kim’s 10/20 Measurements” (printed copy provided in lab).
2. Learn how to properly measure and mark a bald mannequin head in lab.
3. Perform a full set of measurements in lab.
4. Perform a check off in lab.
5. Complete nomenclature in lab.
6. Watch videos prior to lab.
B. Assignments
1. Participation points (earned in class).
a. Nomenclature assignment (25 points awarded for completion in class).
b. Mannequin marking assignment (25 points awarded for having all marks plotted on your mannequin head in class).
2. Pre-lab status: Nothing due prior to lab; both assignments will be completed collectively in class.
II. Lab 2
A. Objectives
1. Perform Check Off 1 on mannequin with hair in lab.
2. Introduce scrub and paste application.
3. Perform Check Off 2 on classmate in lab.
4. Watch Weaver Video prior to lab.
5. Watch Kim’s Mannequin Head Measurements prior to lab.
6. Review MiRIS Form and Verify My Measurements in lab.
B. Assignments
1. Mandatory Pre-Lab Practice (Must be completed prior to mandatory lab - NO EXCEPTIONS):
a. Measure and mark 3 different people (not mannequins).
b. Submit photos of each mark in Canvas (do not apply electrodes to your patients).
c. Use this assignment to time your prep for the in-lab check off (30-minute time limit for the set of measurements).
III. Lab 3
A. Objectives
1. Learn how to do a set-up on a patient that is laying down.
2. Discuss excellent patient care and patient safety.
3. Discuss how to speak to a patient on their level.
4. Discuss seizure safety.
5. Discuss PPE.
6. Perform check-off on a classmate laying down in lab.
B. Assignments
1. Mandatory Pre-Lab Practice (Must be completed prior to mandatory lab - NO EXCEPTIONS):
a. Measure, mark, and place electrodes on 3 different people (not mannequins).
b. Submit photos showing each electrode placement.
c. Use this assignment to time your prep for the in-lab check off (45-minute time limit to complete the full setup).
IV. Lab 4
A. Objectives
1. Perform final check off in lab.
2. See a live EEG in lab.
3. Discuss how to troubleshoot machine issues.
4. Create routine EEG note card in lab.
5. Discuss Clinicals/Expectations.
6. Watch “How to Perform an EEG” prior to lab.
