This course is designed for students who are working in the early childhood field to complete the CDA formal training hours related to Competency Standards III: advancing social and emotional competence, and understanding effective positive guidance strategies. Students develop resource collection components for their professional portfolio, write the competency standards, and demonstrate knowledge related to the functional areas: self, social, and guidance.

Each student will write learning experiences for each of the following curricular areas: self-concept, emotional skills/regulation, and social skills.
Each student will write a reflective statement about CDA Competency Standard III, supporting social and emotional development of children, as well as implementing effective positive guidance strategies.
Each student will create a bibliography, including title, author, publisher, copyright dates, and book summary for ten developmentally appropriate, topically related children’s books.
Each student will create a family Resource Guide to share with families, including information on family counseling agencies, translation services, services for children with disabilities, and developmental milestone resources.
Each student will identify ways to support social and emotional development and effective positive guidance strategies.
