WE 140 - Personal Defense Description This introductory personal defense course will empower, prepare and teach students how to deal with many forms of violence. The course will introduce physical technique defense skills and awareness, teach students the stress response, and what kind of body language and emotions could cause someone to more likely be victimized. Students will gain an understanding of personal safety and security, learn to recognize emotions, understand the purpose of our senses, be introduced to basic trauma care, and the importance of taking care of personal health. The intention of this course is to educate participants about options for action and to heighten their sense of awareness and understanding of how to stay safe through personal proactive security and safety skills and knowledge. Explain the four types of awareness as they relate to personal security/defense training (mental, emotional, environmental, and physical).
2. Demonstrate, perform, and accurately execute basic self-defense strategies, skills, and techniques. Including proper neutral and defensive stance, proper body language, evasion and redirection techniques, safety concepts, personal defense skills, tactics and strategies.
3. Understand the stress response, mental health and stress and basic trauma care.
4. Complete safe and proper muscular endurance, strength, and power exercises specific to self-defense technique and movement training.
5. Demonstrate skills for maximal power, speed, and accuracy in the execution of elbow strikes, palm heel strikes, knee strikes, front kicks, side-kicks, loosening techniques, and blocks.
6. Complete presentation using proper formatting, requirements, and communication skills.
