Course Outline: 1. Describe the maintenance and retention of records and management ofpatient information
A. File items (radiographic images, histories, correspondence) into individual patient records
B. Record patient telephone communication and professional dental and medical consultations
. 2. Describe legal responsibilities and regulations related to business ethics and jurisprudence
A. Action that a dental assistant should take after a threat to sue for malpractice
B. Factors and precautions necessary to prevent lawsuits against dental personnel
C. Legal responsibilities of the dental assistant in relation to the state dental practice act
D. Patients’ right to privacy according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations
3. Inventory systems and supply ordering.
A. Order supplies, instruments and equipment to maintain specific levels
B. Record and inventory items used
C. Rotate expendable supplies according to the expiration date
D.Rotate nonexpendable supplies according to the inventory control system
4 Understand and perform Patient reception, communication and accounting
- Demonstrate understanding appointment control process
- Basic concepts of third-party payment
- Fees charged to a patient as directed by the dentist
- Financial management of a dental office
