AR 120 - Architectural Working Drawings I Description This course explores how a commercial building is assembled and documented through through drawings using Building Information Modeling (BIM). Students will develop a typical light commercial structure based on a given program, with emphasis on code requirements, material selection, and construction methods. It is recommended that students have a working knowledge of BIM using Autodesk Revit Architecture before enrolling in this course. Utilizing a given program, develop a basic design solution through team collaboration.
2. Review applicable codes and understand how they would apply to the documentation of the building.
3. Review construction methodologies and building envelop basics, and apply this to the building.
4. Use Building Information Modeling (BIM) to develop a basic set of construction drawings. Course Outline: I. Introduction and reading
A. Introduction to the International Building Code (IBC).
B. Access requirements for people with disabilities based on the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.
C. Floor plan components and symbols
D. Review Zoning Ordinance requirements.
II. Drawing of Floor Plan given a program document, review it to make sure it complies with barrier free requirements, meets the clients needs, and the dimensions add up. Draw the floor plan using Building Information Modeling, BIM.
III. BIM Drawing of Site Plan-given zoning set backs, parking requirements, and handicapped requirements.
IV. Develop alternative elevations for the building, using online catalogs and manufacturer websites to inform design decisions.
V. Identify the appropriate building sections and corresponding wall sections. Using sketches and referencing similar projects to develop and show the appropriate information.
VI. BIM Drawing of Structural Plan. Using the existing floor plan, a steel joist table and other reference material to determine the appropriate size joist for the building.
VII. BIM Drawing of Foundation Plan and Details. Using the existing floor plan and structure, to draw the foundation plan with details.
VIII. BIM Drawing of Interior Elevations and Details. Using the existing floor plan, and a previous drawing exercises to show appropriate information.
IX. Using the BIM model make a color rendering of the building and display on cover sheet.
