CIS 279 - Digital Portfolio


Description
This course will focus on building a comprehensive portfolio to be used to present examples of work to transfer institutions or potential employers. Topics include creating a vision to display work, how to create a professional portfolio in paper and digital format, and how to market work in a professional way.

  2. Identify components required in a digital portfolio.

  3. Create and present a digital portfolio.

  4. Effectively organize communications ensuring there is a clear introduction and conclusion, the content is well sequenced, and there are appropriate transitions. 

  5. Make effective presentation, formatting, and stylistic choices when developing a communication. 

  6. Understand the role of context, audience, and purpose when developing a communication. 

  7. Identify quality sources for data and information pertinent to a problem or issue being examined. 

  8. Create and/or organize data and information into meaningful patterns in order to interpret and draw inferences from it.

II. Portfolio strategy (the breakthrough portfolio strategy, the do’s and don’ts of development)

III. Creating vision (defining vision and creating a vision statement)

IV. Creating attributes (exploring branding, defining your attributes, and brand attributes)

V. The Professional Portfolio (selecting professional looking portfolios)

VI,. Making the Portfolio (tools needed, presentation scenarios, creating pages)

VII. Marketing (networking and marketing, how to present a portfolio, marketing yourself)

VIII. The Career Path (understanding potential employers, possible career paths)

IX.. The Digital Portfolio (online and digital portfolio development)

X. Focusing on Fields of Employment (newspapers, books and magazine publishers, graphic design studios, prepress departments, government agencies, in-house design studios)

XI. Outside the Portfolio (resume development, letter-writing, and self-promotion)
