CIS 252 - Digital Imaging II / Photoshop


Description
Students explore advanced photo production techniques including: workflow automation; color manipulation with the Curves and Levels adjustments; advanced compositing, blending techniques and recognize the differences of CMYK and RGB color models. Using Photoshop software students manipulate resolution for print, web design and create a web page mock up with layer based slicing. Students learn to use Smart Objects to save time and apply non-destructive transformations and filters to photographs and text. Advanced Photoshop techniques are used to create professional images for individual portfolios.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate understanding of advanced photo production techniques used for manipulating photo images for print and web delivery.

  2. Analyze and create non-destructive adjustment layers, work with layer masks, scale images, create clipping masks and create layer styles.

  3. Copy, paste, and export vector artwork from Illustrator to Photoshop in various formats.

  4. Analyze, touch up, and enhance images with blend modes, cloning tools, adjustment layers and be able to use channels as masks.

  5. Demonstrate ability to create a Web page mock up with color themes and use slicing to create and optimize images.

  6. Adjust the shadows, midtones, and highlights of grayscale images using Levels and demonstrate use of the Curves utility to adjust grayscale and color images.

  7. Understand and demonstrate using the Replace Color utility to make color adjustments;

  8. Use Puppet Warp to transform and warp targeted artwork and content aware feature to clone selections to match surrounding areas.

  9. Perform image conversion from RGB for screen to CMYK for print and be able to apply alternative methods to create black and white photos.

  10. Create individual artwork including print and web images and assemble for a personal or professional portfolio.

  11. Make effective presentation, formatting, and stylistic choices when developing a communication. 

  12. Understand the role of context, audience, and purpose when developing a communication. 

  13. Use visual representations such as graphs, charts, or graphics to enhance the meaning of the message that is being communicated.
